| EEN LEVENDE LEGENDE |
Sylvère Toye en wereldklasse, dat zijn twee gegevens die bij elkaar
horen zoals Romeo en Julia traditioneel samenhoren. Meer zelfs, de naam Toye is
sedert jaren een synoniem voor wereldklasse. En dat zal elke
duivenliefhebber, die dit verkoopprogramma zeer aandachtig leest, eens te meer
duidelijk worden. In plaats van de lof voor deze ware grootmeester onnodig aan
te houden, leggen we nu het accent op de kosmopolitische geest waarvan Sylvère
Toye bezeten is in de duivensport. Een ingesteldheid, die er onbetwistbaar toe
bijgedragen heeft dat de Belgische duivensport in het algemeen en de Toyeduiven
in het bijzonder, door de jaren heen over geheel de wereld naam en faam
verwierven.
Al dat jonge geweld van toendertijd was uiteraard de ingewijden van zowel de
nationale als internationale duivenwereld niet ontgaan en meteen werd hij uit
alle windstreken ter wereld overstelpt met de vraag naar afstammelingen van zijn
duivenstam. "De Kleinen", de "Tarzan's", de "Dikkoppen" en hun
afstammelingen staan wereldwijd in elke duivencataloog of magazine afgebeeld.
De talloze buitenlandse bezoekers die het kleine landelijke Otegem aandeden,
zorgen voor vriendschappelijke contacten over de grenzen heen en deden bij
Sylvère het idee rijpen om met eigen ogen te zien hoe in andere landen en
continenten de duivensport wordt beoefend. Ons land mag dan wel met recht en
reden als de bakermat of het Mekka van de duivensport bestempeld worden, iedere
duivencultuur kan verrijkend zijn en een doorwinterde duivenmelker als Toye op
nieuwe inzichten brengen. Hij trok meteen op kruistocht door gans het landschap
van de duivenwereld en keerde steeds opnieuw met veel opgestoken wijsheid
tussen beide oren naar Otegem terug. Duitsland, Frankrijk, spanje en Portugal
zijn voor hem al lang niet meer het referentiekader. Hij bezit immers de
ingebakken eigenschap om ook eens het grotere plaatje te bekijken. Hotelkamers
in China, Japan en Taiwan zijn voor hem intussen bekend terrein geworden. De
zelfingenomenheid van de Saoedi's, het Big Brother gevoel van de Amerikanen, de
uitbundigheid van de Zuid-Amerikanen, het sticijnse van de Egyptenaren, geen
van allen zijn hem vreemd. Door de jaren heen bouwde hij zich wereldwijd een
ijzersterke reputatie uit als een begenadigde duivenliefhebber en ambassadeur
van de Belgische duivensport.
Nationale en provinciale overwinningen boeken, de hoogste en meest imponerende
titels binnenhalen is één zaak, internationale bekendheid en waardering
opbouwen is een andere zaak en dit jarenlang weten te bestendigen valt meestal
onder de uitzonderingsregel.
Toye wist niet alleen in stand te houden maar ook nog uit te breiden door elk
jaar opnieuw spraakmakende uitstlagen voor te leggen.
Iedereen die ook maar iets kent van de hedendaagse duivensport en de laatste
ontwikkelingen op de voet volgde, weet waar de naam Sylvère Toye voor staat.
Eén van de uiterst zeldzame duivensportfiguren, die bij leven en welzijn, al
tot een legende behoren... |

Broadly seen there was no shortage of 1st prizes this season by the Sylvère
Toye household….even the 1st provincial from Tours on the 7th of June is
included in the many top prizes that the great champion from Otegem “collected”
this year.
And what’s more……he had 4 four superb Long Distance racers in his loft: the “Zatopek”,
the “Fabian” , the “Darwin” and the “Pronto”……regrettably
the bird flu in north-east France – in the middle of the Long Distance season –
changed everything and a few of the races had to be cancelled.……and the
impressive range of top prizes from the above mentioned toppers came to a still
stand...

This four year-old cock scored scarcely 0,65% in 2 national competitions,
namely from Marseille (Irun) on the 21st of July he won the 30th national
against 5846p (= 0,51%) and from Perpignan on the 4th of August he won the 8th
national against 5572 pigeons (= 0,14%).
In the association ‘Entente Belge’ “Zatopek” also has a good chance of becoming
ace pigeon…for this competition he achieved the following:
30/5 Brive: the 83rd nat. against 16007p (= 0,51%)
21/7 Marseille (Irun) 30th nat. against 5846p (= 0,51%
4/8 Perpignan 8th nat. against 5572p (= 0,14%)
Together this means 1,16% from 3 national races. Not bad at all!

Eye-catcher number two was the “Fabian” 3020692/02.
|
This “strong ox”, so as Sylvère calls him (he is never tired, not even if he
has had a very tough race the day before) won in 2006 a wonderful range of
prizes in the Grand Distance.
He won in that year on the 25th of May the 2nd provincial Poitiers with 1917p
and the 1st prize in the Long Distance Club. On the 17th of June he achieved
the 185th national from Cahors against 6654p and the 8th prize in the Long
Distance Club.
On the 7th of July he raced Barcelona and ended nationally as 2479th against
11802p, on the 8th of August he flew Perpignan, resulting in the 161st
nationally against 6765p and the 3rd prize in the Long Distance Club. A real
kilometre eater !
How is “Fabian” doing now in 2007 ? Once again he has shown his born class and
began with the training race from Chateauroux on the 19th of May where he won
provincially the 871st against 5712 pigeons.
On the 30th of May he went to Brive and achieved a brilliant 77th prize
nationally against 16007p and the 7th prize in the Long Distance Club. On the
16th of June the “Fabian” scored once again…. now from Cahors: as 634th
nationally against 5892p. On the 14th of July the pigeons for Tarbes were
liberated in Irun (Spain) and “Fabian” won the 4th prize in the Long Distance
Club.

The “Pronto” 3114122/03 , also one of the loft’s performers in 2007!

This “Pronto” has, as a four year-old, already built up an impressive list of
honours! Listing all the prizes would take too long….We will limit ourselves to
a summary …but we want to share these remarkable results from 2007 with you.
As a youngster the “Pronto” scored from Blois (2x) and from Bourges. As a
yearling he proved himself successively from the classic from Chateauroux with
the 171st prize against 5991p and from the national Limoges with the 523rd
prize against 21929p.
In 2005 he won from Orléans (26th/616p), from Brive the 499th nationally
against 20310p, from Limoges the 24th from 2310p.
In 2006 we see that on the 3rd of June he won the 328th nationally from
Limoges against 9545p, then the 349th nationally from Brive against 9466p, then
he went to Limoges and achieved the 1255th nationally against 13581p, ending
with Argenton (22nd/353p).
And now … 2007 !!
On the 30th of May from Brive: 5th prize in the Long Distance Club against
217p, the 19th provincially against 2216p and nationally the 39th against
16007p (= 0,24%).
On the 16th of June from Cahors the 1st prize in the Long Distance Club, the
17th provincially against 757p and nationally the 63rd against 5894p (=1,06%).
He then raced from Limoges, but the pigeons were brought back from this race.
On the 21st of July from Souillac he won the 6th prize in the Long Distance
Club (102p) and the 27th provincially against 926p.
On the 4th of August from Tulle the 88th prize against 1638 pigeons. A very
impressive season for this “Pronto” !

“Darwin”: 3204581/04 (alias the “Souillac II”) is fourth in the line of
gladiators ’07 by S. Toye.

This now 3 year-old cock classified himself as a youngster from the national
Bourges . The following season he achieved the 104th from Argenton against 5458
pigeons. He followed by winning the 779th nationally from Limoges against 17456
yearlings. In 2006 the “Darwin” won, amongst other things, the 236th prov.
Poitiers against 2347p, he classified himself from Souillac as follows: Long
Distance Club 2nd/108p, provincial 6th/1413p and in zone A the 8th against
6611p.
In 2007 this topper scored the following:
On the 19th of May from Chateauroux the 79th from 290p and prov. the 1247th
against 5712 pigeons. On the 23rd of June he won from Limoges the 2nd in the
Long Distance Club against 149p. and the 22nd prov. against 2260 pigeons. Then
from Souillac: in the Long Distance Club the 2nd against 102p, interprov. the
3rd against 1291p and finally from Tulle the 4th against 1638 pigeons. Once
again a topper with a low coefficient in the large competitions!

We started the list with the national Bourges I for yearlings (419 km)
against 2239 pigeons in zone A Sylvère won the 82nd -102nd -104th -115th -166th
etc…(7 prizes from the 8 basketted pigeons).
From the national Brive (620 km) there was once again good “clocked”
with no less than 3 pigeons in the top-100. In the Long Distance Club against
217p: 5-7-9-12-29-30-36-38-53-56 (10/18). Provincially against 2216p the
following results were achieved: 19-33-35-65-227 etc…(10/18) and nationally
against 16007 pigeons we see: 39-77-83-149-667-717 etc….(also 10/18).
On the 7th of June 5 pigeons were basketted for Tours (428 km), in the
Long Distance Club Sylvère ended: 1st -15th -34th against 111p and
provincially against 1981p: 1st -76th and 342nd.
On the 16th of June Cahors was raced! Three pigeons were basketted and
Sylvère scored a 3 from 3 with the following results! In The Long Distance Club
56p: 1st -13th and 14th, nationally against 5892p: 63rd -617th and
634th. The following week 12 pigeons went to Chateauroux with the result
in the Long Distance Club: 1st -2nd -7th -50th and 6 prizes against 526
pigeons. Provincially three top pigeons scored: 5th – 9th -21st . Sylvère won
from Pau 2 from the 3 with the 50th and the 93rd prize against 472p.
From Montauban (769 km) 12 pigeons were entered, with the following
result in the Long Distance Club: 3rd -10th -12th -13th -19th -20th and the
23rd. Provincially from Montauban we see the 8th -68th -143rd -163rd
etc….against 921p (7/12). From Limoges (569 km) he started with the 1st
and 2nd prize in the Long Distance Club against 149p. Sylvère won here
provincially against 2260p: 5th -22nd -185th etc….From Barcelona provincially
the 69th and 306th against 1718 pigeons. In the same weekend a few yearlings
were entered for St Vincent, which was eventually raced from Irun
(Spain) and we see provincially against 1823p: 61 -96 - 293 - 425 - 429, in
zone A against 3180p: 113- 180- …..From Tarbes on the 14th of July, when
the pigeons were liberated from Irun, Sylvère began with the 39th and 40th
prize provincially against 1478 pigeons. Eight days later the pigeons were once
again liberated from Irun instead of Marseille. In the Long Distance
Club Toye won once again the 1st prize and also the 22nd prize against
266 pigeons, provincially against 362p we see the 3rd and 37th and nationally
against 5846p: 30th and 269th. In the same weekend interprovincial raced from
Souillac against 102p. In the Long Distance Club is Sylvère: 2nd -4th -6th
-17th – 21st, provincially against 926p: 4th -17th -27th – 90th – 122nd – 220th
, interprovincial against 1377p: 4th – 23rd – 38th -123rd etc…… By the
yearlings from this race we noted another victory for the Otegemnaar, namely: 1st
– 3rd and the 30th, interprovincial against 1377p: 13th – 43rd etc…
Sylvère won once again from Narbonne the 1st prize in the Long
Distance Club and that is provincially the 4th prize against 873p. Yearlings
were entered for Bourges II, scoring provincially the 27th -131st -270th
against 1279 pigeons. On the 1st of August Toye won the 4th prize from Tulle
against 1638p with the “Darwin”. From the St Vincent II for yearlings he
achieved in the Long Distance Club: 6th – 11th -15th -26th -27th -28th -29th
against 87p and provincially against 1298p: 61st -101st -129th etc… (6 prizes
from the 8 pigeons entered). Lastly six pigeons were basketted for Perpignan
with the following result in the Long Distance Club: 2nd -7th and 20th against
64p and provincially against 1065p: 5th -60th -233rd, as well as nationally
beginning with the 8th prize.
So far our look at the 2007 season from Sylvère Toye….. A season that he can be
very pleased with….it was decorated with multiple victories and national top
pigeons, in which the “Zatopek”, the “Pronto”, the “Darwin” and the “Fabian”
played a leading part.
